Many of you know that I’ve had a studio for the last 4 years. I started without one, shooting on location only, but I got to a certain point & felt like I couldn’t handle the volume I was doing without one. Cold weather forces us inside, rain happens, Seniors tend to want a few indoor shots, & not everyone wants us to come in to their homes for a session. So how do I suddenly find myself without a studio? Wait… let me get my coffee… and take a DEEP breath lol….
Around Christmas time, my boyfriend Stephen started having problems with yet ANOTHER tenant in his rental property. Broken windows, property damage, & of course, they’re already falling behind in their rent. So he decided it would be a wise decision to build on to the side of the house & turn it in to a studio for me. It made perfect sense – he wouldn’t have to worry about finding trust worthy tenants, & if I was going to pay rent somewhere it might as well be going back to us! So work was done a little at a time, & I finally gave notice to Megan, who I’d been sharing a space with for the last year. It was decided that I’d be out by the end of May & I was. But unfortunately, the studio wasn’t ready. Nowhere NEAR being ready. But not for lack of trying. Without going in to too much detail, the gist of it is this… Stephen had a friend doing the work for him. He was pretty much in charge of everything. This is someone he’d been friends with for many, many years. Someone that had done work for him many times. After weeks of excuses about why the materials Stephen had paid for STILL weren’t in, we hear that the guy got arrested & was in jail for a few things, one of them being fraud, for taking money from a woman to start a job & never coming back. With a sinking feeling, we know there are no materials coming, & that his money is gone. Thousands of dollars.
I’m not telling this story to ask for pity. I’m only sharing to explain why I suddenly find myself without a studio to work in, hoping my clients will understand. I think we can make this work… its the perfect time of year for it to work! So bare with me, & wish a little patience, I’ll get there. And in the meantime, I’m looking forward to all of the beautiful outdoor sessions I have coming up! Here are a few images from my first session without a studio!
